The Greek Shaolin Cultural Organization has granted the request of martial arts club “Pammachon” at Melissochori, (which is a member of the Greek Martial Arts Federation –EOPT), for an open presentation of Shaolin Rou Quan [Chin: Shàolín róu quán 少林 柔拳]. The event took place at 7:30pm in the packed training area, by master Shi Miao Yuan [Chin.: shìmiàoyuán 释妙原] – Vassilopoulos Ioannis who is an officially recognized martial arts master of EPOS.

An introduction was made round the history ,the principles and the culture of Shaolin, via its martial virtues (shaolin wu de) patience and perseverance in particular, and the the five skills (shaolin wu gong) that gradually develop in every practitioner of Rou Quan.

A great chance was given to all participants to practice in several kinds of Shaolin Qi Gong , traditional shaolin drills, and eventually they familiarised themselves with Shaolin Rou Quan, which constitutes the predecessor and traditional form of Tai Ji Quan.

In the meantime, detailed scientific quotations and recent publication results were mentioned, concerning the health benefits of soft fist sets. i.e Tai Ji Quan and the fact that numerous world health organisations suggest it as an ideal complementary form of exercise.

There were many parents who took this opportunity to practice along with their children. Hence, further discussions were made on the proven affect on physical and mental behavior in kids and youngster and the positive impact that Rou Quan can provide in a family’s general well being and harmony.

The director of the school went on by reserving teaching hours of Shaolin Rou Quan and Qi Gong from September on.

The end of the session was accompanied by a small tea ceremony, where tea and traditional sweets were offered, along with printed material round the practice of Shaolin Qi Gong and Shaolin Rou Quan. It was stressed out how rightfull and faithfull the Greek Shaolin Cultural Organization is, on the proper transmission of shaolin arts and culture in Greece.
