The Tai Chi Festival was organized on a nationwide scale with the aim of introducing the broader public to the diversity of styles that make up this art. Schools from many cities across Greece were present, showcasing different approaches to practice—both traditional and modern.
The event was open to the public, giving anyone interested the opportunity to participate actively by trying out basic exercises or simply observing the movements, rhythm, and philosophy that underlie the art of Tai Chi.
Shaolin Rou Quan at the 8th World Martial Arts Festival
At the same time, over the weekend of May 10–11, 2025, the city of Serres hosted the 8th World Martial Arts Festival—a prestigious international event organized by the World Federation of Martial Arts (WFMA) at the indoor arena of the Agioi Anargyroi Valley. As part of the festival, EPOS instructor Alexandra Stavridou, along with graduating students Paris Panagopoulou and Anastasia Konti, after the encouragement of the President of the Organization K. Katakalaios Dimitris presented the Traditional Art of Shaolin Rou Quan.
Their demonstration captivated the audience, who warmly applauded the skill, grace, and inner strength of the performers. Their presence highlighted the quality of martial arts education in Greece and the passion with which these rare traditional Shaolin arts continue to be passed down.
The Importance of the Coexistence of Art and Tradition
The simultaneous occurrence of these two events, in different parts of Greece, illustrates the ongoing growth and increasing interest in traditional martial arts. Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and traditional forms of Shaolin are not merely physical practices—they are carriers of culture, spiritual development, and emotional balance.
These events demonstrate that martial arts, far from being about violence or competition, can serve as bridges for communication, unity, and self-awareness, offering modern individuals tools for wellbeing and inner harmony.
Looking to the Future
After such a weekend filled with energy, tradition, and emotion, it is clear that interest in internal martial arts in Greece is growing. The participation of schools, the presentation of various styles, and the active involvement of the public show that the path to conscious physical practice and spiritual cultivation is more relevant than ever.
The teachers and students who took part sent a powerful message: tradition is not something old—it is a living flame passed from generation to generation, inspiring and empowering all who embrace it.
