About Liu He Gong

The 6 Harmonic Exercises or Skills is one of Shaolin's oldest teachings, belongs to the "Shaolin Chan Qi Jian" [Chin.: Shàolín chǎnqìjiàn 少林 产 气 健] and has not changed over time. It is a set of exercises aimed at enhancing health, achieving mental clarity and eliminating stress and depression. Each of the six movements and postures corresponds to a different organ of the body, such as the heart, lungs, kidneys, spleen, liver, and different meridian channels. It is a Qigon routine in motion and has the elements of an elementary or original form of Tai Ji Quan [Chin.:Tàijíquán 太极拳]. The basic walking movement "cat walking" [Chin.:miáoxíng í 行] looks like a variation of Tai Zi Chuan's "Twisting Step" [Chin.: Zuoyou Lōuxī Àobù, 左右 膝 膝 拗 步], while teaching use of the concepts of "Torsion, Immersion, and Direction" which is a basic teaching in Tai Ji Quan.
