Μαύρη Ζώνη σε Μαθητή 9 Ετών

Μαύρη Ζώνη σε Μαθητή 9 Ετών

On Sunday, June 15, 2025, the closing ceremony of the fifth educational seminar of the pioneering Shaolin Kung Fu Duan Pin Evaluation System (少林功夫段品制) was marked by a moment of historic significance. For the first time in the history of EPOS (Hellenic Organization for the Study and Practice of Shaolin), a Black Belt was formally awarded to a student under the age of 10.

Charalampos Spyridopoulos, affectionately known as "Babis," was honored by the Masters of EPOS for his years of dedication, discipline, and love for the art of Shaolin Kung Fu. In accordance with EPOS's internal regulations, age exceptions may be granted in cases of exceptional learning ability—provided there is unanimous agreement among the organization's instructors. Babis proved to be such a case, consistently demonstrating commitment, humility, and maturity well beyond his years.

As EPOS Board President, Master Dimitris Katakalaios, stated:

"Advanced Duan Level in Shaolin Kung Fu [Chin.: Shàolín Gōngfū xiānjìnduànwèi 少林功夫先进段位] may be awarded to distinguished students who have achieved first place in more than one National, European, or World Championship, Cup, or Martial Arts Festival in which the official EPOS team has participated. The candidate must honor their teachers, respect the teachings, follow the rules, and maintain discipline. Great emphasis is placed on moral integrity and adherence to the traditional code of conduct in Shaolin martial arts."

Babis not only met but exceeded all of these expectations. His character, respect for his teachers, and commitment to ethical practice have set a shining example for his peers and even for older practitioners.

The decision to honor him with the Black Belt was unanimous and heartfelt, recognizing not only his technical skills but his spirit, perseverance, and moral excellence.

Though small in age, Charalampos Spyridopoulos is great in heart and virtue—truly embodying the spirit of Shaolin. He reminds us all that the path of martial arts is not defined by years, but by character.
